• FSRT (Foundation Safety and Rescue Test) Course on Sunday 5th July 2009. One place only left. See details attached.
• The June 2009 edition of the Club's Waterfront Newsletter is now available on the Waterfront page. Is this the biggest and best edition yet??
• Surrey Heath Sports Awards
  The Basingstoke Canal Canoe Club and some of our members have been nominated for awards in the second Surrey Heath Sports Awards. These will notice sportsmen and sportswomen young and old from across the Borough and give them the recognition they deserve. The awards ceremony will take place at the Camberley Theatre on Weds 8th July. Liz M has a limited number of tickets, please contact her if you wish to attend.
• Due to popular demand, the BCCC Pub Crawl is back, on Saturday 12th September 2009. See the trips page for more details.
• The BCCC boat store will be closed and out of bounds after training on Thursday evening 23rd July until the morning of Saturday 25th July. This is to enable the boat store floor to be painted.
  
• BCCC Hosted the Hampshire Youth Games on 20th June 2009. Report and pictures

• 2009 Devizes to Westminster Race: Report and pictures
  - The 15 year old Smith twins achieve first place in Junior Ladies and in the under-17 class for schools.
  - A backmarker achieves his goal.

  - Former Olympic rower, James Cracknell, who competed in this year's DW, was quoted as saying that entering the world of marathon paddling made him feel he was going over to the "Dark Side"!

• July/August 2009 : BCCC Camping Holiday to France. This annual event has been running for more than twenty years. It is not a canoeing holiday, but a holiday with canoeing in it. There is also cycling and plenty of sight-seeing. It is a family holiday where you can choose to take part in activities agreed within the group, or not, just as you feel like it at the time. Our camping holiday, in the sun, in 2009 will be on the River Cele south of the Dordogne. Our dates are expected to be July 27th to August 9th. You may stay on any dates within that range. • Sadly Alan Dressel, a long-time member of the Club, an enthusiastic white water kayaker and canoeist and a friend of many, died on 1st December 2008. We send our heart-felt condolences to Maureen and her family.

The barrier to the field

Club members can use the BCCC key in the boathouse to open the barrier. Members can also buy their own copy of the barrier key from Basingstoke Canal Authority.
If you unlock the the barrier then you must lock it again immediately after use.
N.B. If this procedure is not followed then we risk losing vehicle access to the field.
